It was a night of high drama in Ahmedabad on Sunday as Punjab Kings stormed into the IPL 2025 final for only the second time in their history, thanks to a breathtaking unbeaten 87 off 41 balls from skipper Shreyas Iyer.

But amid the celebrations of their five-wicket win over Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2, tempers flared — and the hero of the hour wasn’t all smiles.

Moments after Iyer sealed the 204-run chase with a match-winning six, the PBKS camp erupted in celebration. However, what followed was unexpected: a furious Iyer was seen giving teammate Shashank Singh a public dressing down during the post-match handshakes.

The flashpoint? A costly run-out in the 17th over. With PBKS in command and 35 needed off 21 balls, Shashank casually set off for a single after driving a low full toss from Trent Boult. Mumbai Indians’ skipper Hardik Pandya seized the moment, firing in a rocket throw to catch Shashank short at the non-striker’s end. The TV umpire needed just one replay.

Iyer, visibly livid, hurled expletives, pointed fingers, and ordered Shashank away from him, despite the game already being won. While Shashank walked away in silence, his disappointment was written all over his face.

The tension was a stark contrast to Iyer’s otherwise composed demeanor after his match-winning knock, which kept PBKS alive in the tournament following a crushing loss in Qualifier 1. It was yet another example of the high stakes and emotions in the IPL.

Punjab Kings now face Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the final at the same venue, hoping to lift their maiden IPL title.
