Amritsar, March 12

Mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu has issued directions to staff of the health wing of the Municipal Corporation to issue challans for littering in the walled city area. In a recent meeting, councillors of the wards in the assembly constituency (central) had complained that sanitation arrangements in the inner wards were not accurate. The Mayor got a report of various areas of the walled city during a meeting with health wing officials, the chief sanitary inspector and the sanitary inspector deployed in inner city areas.

The Mayor gave strict instructions to the officials that sanitation of the inner city should be up to the mark as lakhs of pilgrims visit the holy shrines here daily. He also asked them to issue challans to the habitual offenders and those who did not stop throwing garbage in the area. The health officers present at the meeting informed that they were making efforts to keep the inner city areas neat and clean. They marked the attendance of safai karamcharis thrice a day to assure their presence in the area.
