Covid count in J&K crosses 50K mark

Jammu, September 11

The Covid-19 count in J&K reached 50,712 with 1,578 new cases – 808 from Jammu division and 770 from Kashmir Valley – reported in the last 24 hours.

The Union Territory also registered nine deaths – six from Jammu and three from Kashmir division – during the same period, taking the death toll to 854.

Also, 474 patients – 137 from Jammu division and 337 from Kashmir – have recovered from the infection and discharged from various care centres in the last 24 hours.

According to the official bulletin issued on Friday evening, out of  50,712 positive cases, 15,169 are active positive, 34,689 have recovered and 854 – 137 in Jammu division and 717 in Kashmir – have succumbed to the contagion.

The bulletin further said that out of 11,77,773 test results available, 11,27,061 samples have returned negative.

Rapid Testing

Meanwhile to contain the further spike in coronavirus cases, District Administration Samba is going to start rapid testing of all the inbound train passengers at four Railway stations – Ghagwal, Samba, Vijaypur and Bari-Brahmana.

Deputy Commissioner, Rohit Khajuria, on Friday chaired a review meeting and ordered 100 per cent Covid testing of the inbound passengers coming from trains at all the Railway stations in the district.

He stressed upon the concerned officials to ensure all the passengers are tested before they are allowed to go to their homes.

Medical teams for testing will be deployed at all four Railway stations in the district, said Khajuria.

The DC emphasised that all Tehsildars should work in close coordination with station masters and provide all the essentials required for smooth testing process.

The DC also asked the District Officers to properly display signages, banners and provide water to the passengers in sitting areas so that no inconvenience is caused to them. 

He also directed them to submit daily reports to his office.
