New Delhi, November 10
The J&K government today announced that it had decided to relax the upper age limit for the aspirants, who are interested in the recruitment process for police sub-inspector (SI) posts.
The office of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha tweeted that following representation from various delegations, the government had taken the decision to provide one-time age relaxation for the aspirants.
Posts increased
The administration has also decided to increase the number of posts from 800 to 1,200.
Age relaxation was the major demand of the aspirants as two years had elapsed due to Covid
It further said, “The upper age limit increased from 28 to 30 years and the numbers of UT cadre posts also enhanced from 800 to 1,200.”
Age relaxation was one of the major demands of the aspirants claiming that the two-year period had already elapsed in view of the Covid pandemic. The aspirants were demanding upper age limit relaxation from 30 to 35 years.
Several political parties, including the BJP, the Congress and the Apni Party, had been supporting the demand of age-relaxation. BJP spokesperson Abhinav Sharmna said the demand for age relaxation was genuine as J&K had failed in conducting the selection process for various posts, including ones for sub-inspectors, every year.
J&K Pradesh Congress Committee chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma had also stated that the sub-inspector aspirants had a strong case as there were no selections for such posts on a regular basis. “Over the past 12 years, only twice such selections have taken place — once in 2009 and 2016,” he added.
