Nearly 259 successful deliveries were assisted by ambulance staffers in Jammu and Kashmir and one emergency case handled every 10 minutes through the emergency medical services cadre that was rolled out in the UT last year.
The Jammu and Kashmir Emergency Medical Services (JKEMS), with help lines 108 and 102, have completed a year since the launch under the National Health Mission (NHM). The project is under way in the public private partnership mode.
Data from the NHM show the JKEMS in one year benefitted 63,718 patients out of which 50,357 were serviced through 108 and 13,361 through 102.
BVG India, the private partner in the project, said one emergency was handled nearly every 10 minutes.
Statistics show emergency ambulance service was started with an initial fleet of 116 ambulances under 108. This has now grown to 143.
The Centralised Emergency Response Centre (ERC) is situated at Channi Himmat in Jammu.
The NHM review further states that 19,119 pregnancy related emergencies and 1,814 road traffic related emergencies were reported at 108.
The 108 ambulance services were in the frontline of the Covid pandemic response and 5,639 Covid-19 suspected and confirmed cases were transported through this service. The ERC on an average receives 3,647 calls a day, data show.
