In a major recruitment drive after the formation of the NC government in Jammu and Kashmir, at least 2.62 lakh candidates competed in the examination for 4,002 posts of police constable on Sunday under heavy security arrangements. The examinations will also be held on December 8 and 22.
The candidates appeared in exams for the posts of constables (Home Department) for which the administration had made elaborate arrangements.
The exams of Constables (Executive/Armed/SDRF) were held at 856 centres across the districts for which 2.62 lakh candidates appeared, with maximum number of 54,296 candidates in Jammu district.
Similarly for Constable (Telecommunication), 1,67,609 candidates are going to take the exam to be held on December 8 and 1,28,663 candidates will appear for Constable (Photographer) exams on December 22.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Shiv Kumar Sharma conducted a checking of the exam centres in Jammu. He said thorough surveillance was arranged at all centres and the officials on duty remained alert to prevent use of any unfair means during exam.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha had on Saturday evening chaired a meeting of senior government officials to review the preparations for conduct of examination for police constables. It was revealed that for the first time male and female gazetted officers were deployed in each centre as ‘frisking supervisors’ besides ensuring videography of the exams to ensure transparency in the conduct of the exam.
