Officials in the security establishment said a combing operation was launched to ensure that no other terrorist was hiding at the encounter site or had taken shelter at any nearby place.

According to a senior police official, the slain terrorists were affiliated with the Al-Badr terror outfit. A joint team of the police and the CRPF conducted a cordon and search operation.“The security agencies received info about two terrorists hiding in Khanmoh last night. With the help of the Army and the CRPF, the security forces cordoned off the area. They appealed to terrorists to surrender, but to no avail. An encounter started today. Two terrorists associated with Al-Badr terror outfit were killed,” Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Vijay Kumar said.

On Sunday, an improvised explosive device (IED) was neutralised between Sugan and Turkhwangam by security forces in the Shopian district of the UT.
