The Jammu and Kashmir government on Thursday suspended two doctors after alleged medical negligence at a private hospital in Sopore, where a woman, admitted for ear surgery, reportedly had her uterus removed instead. Operation theatre of the hospital was also sealed after the incident.

“Have initiated action against the doctors involved in the recent incident at a private hospital Sopore,” J&K Health Minister Sakeena Itoo wrote on X.

An order issued by the Health Department stated that Dr Anjum Nazir, consultant gynaecologist at Sub District Hospital, Sopore, and Dr Tariq Ahmad Dar, Medical Officer (Diploma in Anesthesia) at District Hospital, Bandipora, have been suspended with immediate effect.

The order also stated that the doctors are banned from engaging in any form of private medical practice across Jammu and Kashmir.

“Pending enquiry into the incident that occurred on February 3 at Hakeem Sonaullah Hospital, Sopore, and to ensure a fair and impartial investigation while maintaining the integrity of the healthcare system, the two doctors are placed under suspension with immediate effect and shall remain attached with Directorate of Health Services, Jammu, till further orders,” the government order read.
