Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kathua, YP Sharma sentenced two accused in a forgery and cheating case to two years and one-year simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 each on them.

The case pertains to an FIR registered in 2004 by Pawan Mahajan, a resident of Kathua. In the complaint, Pawan had alleged that the accused, Kamal Krishan Keasr, a resident of Kathua, and two others had forged revenue papers and got the map approved from the Town Area Committee with the connivance of patwari Som Lal and girdawar Madan Mohan.

After about 16 years, the trial court sentenced convict Kamal Kishore Keasr to two years of simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on him for commission of offences under Sections 420 and 120-B of the RPC. Similarly, the accused patwari, Som Lal, was sentenced one-year imprisonment and was imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 for the commission of offence under Section 167 of the RPC. The third accused had died during the trial period. All sentences will run concurrently.
