The Centre has empanelled two senior IAS officers of the J&K cadre to hold Secretary-level posts in the Central government.

According to official sources, the Appointment Committee of Cabinet (ACC) has given clearance to the proposal of empanelment of 1987-batch IAS officer Sudhanshu Panday and 1988-batch officer Arun Kumar Mehta as Secretaries in the Central government. The two officers are among a total of 34 IAS officers of 1987-88 batches.

After the imposition of Governor’s rule in Jammu and Kashmir in 2018, Mehta, who is currently holding the charge of Financial Commissioner, Finance Department, returned to the Union Territory from Central deputation.

Pandey, who is presently on Central deputation, is holding charge of Joint Secretary, Commerce.

The sources said only three out of the 10 senior-most IAS officers of Jammu and Kashmir, comprising Arun Kumar Mehta, Principal Secretary, Home, Shaleen Kabra and Financial Commissioner, Health and Medical Education Eepartment, Atul Dulloo, are currently serving in Jammu and Kashmir. — TNS
