2 militants, associate killed in South Kashmir’s Awantipora

Two unidentified militants and their associate was killed in a gunfight with security forces in South Kashmir’s Awantipora sub district on Saturday morning, police said.
The gunfight, the second in south Kashmir since Friday evening , began when joint forces were carrying a cordon a search operation in Goripora area of Awantipora after an input about militant presence.
” As forces zeroed on suspected area, hiding militants fired upon forces which was retaliated, triggering an encounter,” a police official said.
Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Vijay Kumar said ,” two unidentified terrorists and one hardcore associate of terrorists was killed. The search is still going on,” he said.
On Friday evening two unidentified militants were killed while they were trying to flee along with a police man-they had abducted, minutes earlier from his home in Kulgam district.
The abducted police man was rescued while another cop was injured during the exchange of fire.
After the outbreak of COVID-19, at least 20 militants have been killed in Kashmir in various gunfights. This included five militants who were killed in a fierce gunfight in Keran sector along the Line of Control.
