Two more ultras shot in Kishtwar ops, count 3

In a major success for security forces operating in the high-altitude region of Kishtwar, two more terrorists were killed in the Chatroo area late Friday evening. One terrorist had been killed earlier that morning, bringing the total number of militants neutralised to three.

Security forces, who launched an operation against the terrorists—believed to be Pakistani nationals—also recovered a US-made M4 carbine, AK-series rifles, and other war-like stores from the slain militants.

Brigadier JVS Rathi, Commander of 5 Sector Assam Rifles, said during a media briefing that the operation began on April 9 following specific intelligence inputs. The area falls under the operational responsibility of the 11 Rashtriya Rifles (RR).

“The operation was launched in a dense forest area by joint teams of the Army, J&K Police, and CRPF against a group of terrorists. The troops displayed tactical acumen and swiftness, ensuring zero casualties on our side. In the ensuing firefight, three terrorists were neutralised despite the challenging weather conditions,” said Brig Rathi.

He emphasised that civilian safety was the top priority and was maintained throughout the operation. “This operation highlighted the seamless coordination between the Army and the police, particularly the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the J&K Police. Rapid reinforcements, including Special Forces, were deployed with the assistance of the Indian Air Force (IAF). Real-time surveillance of the area was conducted using UAVs to prevent any escape by the terrorists,” he added.

Brig Rathi noted that several effective measures were implemented, leading to the successful elimination of the terrorists without any casualties among security forces.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban range, Shridhar Patil, stated that the operation would continue until all terrorists operating in the region are neutralised. “I would also like to thank the locals for their support to the security forces,” said Patil.

He praised the coordination among security forces, calling it exemplary. “This synergy will continue in the future. Those who attempt to disrupt peace will be dealt with an iron hand,” he asserted.

Officials informed that the identities of the slain terrorists have not yet been established.
