Two unidentified militants were killed by security forces in an encounter that broke out on Tuesday night in Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir, the police said.
The security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation at Moachwah in the Chadoora area of Budgam district around 7 pm on Tuesday following information about the presence of militants there, a police official said.
He said the search operation turned into an encounter around 9 pm after militants opened fire at the security forces positions.
Two militants were killed in the gunbattle, which lasted nearly four hours. The identity and group affiliation of the slain militants was being ascertained, the official said, adding preliminary investigation suggests that one of the slain ultras was a foreigner. — PTI
Terrorist hideout unearthed in Poonch
Jammu: Security forces have busted a terrorist hideout in a forest area in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, leading to the recovery of a cache of arms and ammunition, a senior police officer said on Wednesday.
The hideout was unearthed during an overnight joint operation by the police and the Rashtriya Rifles in the forest area of Kalaban in the Mendhar Sector, Ramesh Angral, the Senior Superintendent of Police, Poonch, said.
He said the search of the hideout led to the recovery of an AK 56 rifle, three magazines, 793 rounds, a pair of binoculars, a radio set, a Pakistan-made pistol with a magazine and a solar charger.— PTI
