A 30-member team of the All Ladakh Tour Operators Association based in Leh visited the Siachen Glacier Tourism Circuit to understand the infrastructural needs for the smooth conduct of tourism activities.

The circuit was recently announced by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh during his visit to Ladakh to open it for domestic tourists, but a final notification is yet to be issued.

With the issuing of a notification in this regard, it will be a new destination for tourists visiting Ladakh.

At a press conference held on Tuesday, association president Tsetan Angchuk said they held a three-day familiarisation trip at the circuit for the stakeholders in the second week of November and it was conducted to find tourism potentialities.

“There are seven villages in this circuit. Warshi, the last village in the zone, is situated near the base camp of Siachen glacier. We observed that this new destination has the potential of cultural and spiritual trips for tourists as there are centuries-old monastery and fort at Charasa village and a meditation cave at the Siachen base camp among other cultural attractions,” he said.
