34 hotspots, red zones in Jammu

2,000 contacts of positive cases found, testing on at war footing

JAMMU, April 3

With the addition of five new cases, the total number of Covid positive cases in J&K has risen to 75. Out of these, 70 are active, including 54 in Kashmir division and 16 in Jammu province.

Principal Secretary (Planning and Information) and government spokesperson Rohit Kansal said 22,993 cases were under surveillance so far.

J&K had also been testing cases aggressively and so far, 1,218 tests have been conducted which is 6.5% of the total cases under surveillance, he said.

He stated that nearly 2,000 contacts of positive cases had been identified of which 975 had been traced and tested. He reassured that the identified contacts would be traced and tested.

The spokesman said in all, 34 hotspots/ red zones had been identified in J&K, of which 24 are in Kashmir division and 10 in Jammu division. These include seven in Pulwama, four in Bandipora, four in Budgam, five in Srinagar, two in Shopian, one each in Ganderbal and Baramulla in Kashmir division while four are in Jammu district, five in Rajouri and one in Udhampur district of Jammu division.

Kansal said steps had been initiated to upgrade the health infrastructure in UT and 68 new medical professional, including doctors, specialists, paramedics, medical officers and nurses have joined their respective duties. The administration was also procuring masks, PPEs and ventilators to augment the existing health infrastructure and every possible effort was being made to ensure that there was no shortage of manpower in the health sector.

Taking stock of essentials

  • Of 5,037 trucks carrying essentials, including foodgrain, LPG, petroleum, fruits and vegetables, medicines and health supply, milk and cattle feed, 372 have entered J&K from Lakhanpur
  • 248 local industrial units have been made operational
  • 800 trucks and tankers reached Kashmir on Friday
  • 27,000 residents of the UT, stranded in different parts, are being reached out to and provided support through helplines
