Girl students outshine boys in the annual Class X board exams conducted in the winter zone of Jammu region, the results of which were declared by the J&K Board of School Education (JKBOSE) here on Friday.

It is heartening to see that girls have again outnumbered boys. I congratulate the successful candidates and those who could not make it this time, they can work with more confidence to achieve success in the next opportunity they get.

A total of 24,008 students comprising 12,736 boys and 11,272 girls appeared in the Class X exams conducted at 277 examination centres in the winter zone of the region comprising Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, parts of Kathua, Rajouri and Poonch districts.
According to J&K Board of School Educationspokesperson, a total of 12,158 students qualified the exam with overall pass percentage of 50.64. Of them, 51.05 per cent girls qualified the exam while the pass percentage of boys remained 50.28 per cent.
393 get ‘A1’ grade
A total of 393 candidates qualified the exam with ‘A1’ grade while the number of candidates qualifying the exam with ‘A2’ was 744, the spokesperson said. A total of 20 cases of unfair means came to the fore during the exams.

A total of 69.22 per cent students qualified in English, while 66.03 per cent students managed to clear the mathematics exam. In Hindi, the overall pass percentage remained 79.35 per cent and it was 73.24 per cent in science, 70.46 in Urdu and 65.33 per cent in social studies.
While expressing satisfaction over the timely declaration of the result, the JKBOSE chairperson, Professor Veena Pandita, said the successful students have “defeated the challenges posed by harsh climate and tough terrains to prove their worth”.
“It is heartening to see that girls have again outnumbered boys. I congratulate the successful candidates and those who could not make it this time, they will work with more confidence to achieve success in the next opportunity they get”, she said.
She also expressed her gratitude to the School Education Department, the divisional and
district-level administrative machinery, the Secretary, JKBOSE, whole team of the officers and officials of JKBOSE, Jammu division, and teachers who directly or indirectly contributed for the “flawless conduct” of examination followed by the timely declaration of results. She was happy with the overall performance of students.
