600 athletes to take part in winter games in Ladakh
Pawan Kotwal, Adviser to the Lieutenant Governor and chairman of the executive committee for Khelo India-2025, chaired a meeting to assess the preparations for the upcoming winter games.
During the meeting, Stanzin Thakchos, OSD to the Secretary, Youth Services & Sports, gave a detailed presentation on the preparations for the event. He said the second edition of the Khelo India games would be held in Leh from January 23 to January 27. The opening ceremony is scheduled for January 23 at the NDS Ice Hockey Stadium.
Thakchos said around 600 athletes were expected to participate in the event, which would be held at three venues. He provided an in-depth overview of the preparations undertaken by various departments to ensure successful conduct of the winter games.
He said Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya would attend the opening ceremony of the event. The key sports, including ice hockey and ice skating, will be telecast live on the DD Sports channel.
Directing officers concerned to ensure provision of top-notch facilities, Kotwal emphasised the importance of creating a world-class environment for participants. He commended the efforts of the organising committee and various departments involved in the preparations. He also instructed departments to finalise venue preparations, branding, catering and other support ahead of the event.
The meeting was attended by SD Singh Jamwal, DGP, Ladakh; Vikram Singh Malik, Secretary, Youth Services & Sports; Michael D’Souza, Secretary GAD; Bhanu Prabha, Secretary, Education; Santosh Sukhadeve, DC, Leh; and Shruti Arora, SSP, Leh; along with directors, concerned officers, and members of the executive committee.
