631 non-residents purchased land in J&K since 2019: Govt

Jammu division recorded 378 land deals, while Kashmir division saw 253 purchases

The Jammu and Kashmir government on Friday informed the Assembly that 631 non-residents have purchased land in the Union Territory since the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019.

Responding to an unstarred question by NC MLA Sheikh Ahsan Ahmed, the Revenue Department said the majority of land purchases were recorded in the Jammu division (378), while 253 transactions took place in the Kashmir division.

The department said the total value of land acquired by people from outside J&K was Rs 130 crore, involving 212 kanals in Jammu and 173 kanals in Kashmir.

Providing year-wise data, the department reported that 2024 saw the highest number of purchases at 169, followed by 158 in 2025, 127 in 2022, 119 in 2023, 57 in 2021, and one in 2020, the first year after the constitutional changes.

Buyers were from several states and Union Territories, including Ladakh, Delhi, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan, the department added.
