Srinagar, January 12
The police today recovered 9.27-kg charas powder and 867 bottles of illicit alcohol and arrested three persons in Anantnag district.
“Our commitment is to make Anantnag a drugs-free district. We raided the house of Mohd Ramzan Ganie at Seer Hamdan Mattan and recovered 9.27-kg charas powder, 867 bottles of illicit liquor and Rs 13,325 cash. A case has been registered and investigation initiated,” the police said.
The case has been filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, along with various sections of the Excise Act, at the Mattan police station.
The police said that Ramzan and two other suspects were engaged in the illicit trade of smuggling alcohol and charas.
The police said the trio had concealed substantial quantities of illicit alcohol and charas powder in well-designed concealments within their house and vehicles. Following a search operation, charas powder and illicit alcohol were recovered from their premises.
Meanwhile, the police today said it was committed to ending the menace of narco-terror and such cases were being pursued on priority.
IGP, Kashmir, VK Birdi called on people to help the police in the fight against drug menace.
“The police are committed to controlling such things (narco-terror). The police have pursued such cases on priority and acted against drug peddlers under PIT-NDPS Act and NDPS Act,” Birdi told reporters in Baramulla during a visit to a drug de-addiction centre. He hailed Baramulla police’s action against drug peddlers.
“A lot has been done but we need to do a lot more and (do it) strictly so that the drug menace is uprooted from society,” the IGP said.
