Srinagar, August 13
The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) today said the abolition of self-help groups (SHGs) was an “arbitrary” decision that would hit the livelihood of the engineers involved in the construction work.
“The abolition of SHGs is an assault on the livelihood of thousands of engineers involved in the construction work. The abolition of SHGs is arbitrary and a decision taken without doing any exercise. There are more than 15,000 engineers and their staff working in their offices involved in the construction work in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, who will be left jobless. This decision is bound to have serious implications on the already devastated economy of J&K. Who is advising the government to take such harsh and anti-people decisions?” Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president GA Mir said in a statement.
He urged the UT Administration to revoke the decision forthwith and take effective measures to create more employment avenues.
