ACB conducts surprise check at Chenani Hydel Project

A surprise check was conducted at the Chenani Hydel Project, Udhampur, by the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) over complaints of irregularities against the officers of Power Development Corporation (PDC).
The complaint stated that a fraud worth Rs 25 lakh had been committed in the Generation Division of the Power Development Corporation, Udhampur.
“A joint team, comprising officers of the engineering wing of the ACB, Jammu, and officers of the JKPDCL, Jammu, was deputed at the Chenani Hydel Electric Power Project to conduct inspection with regard to various works executed and records maintained. The record pertaining to the complaint was scrutinised. The team also examined various purchases made by the officers on exorbitant rates,” an ACB report stated.
There were allegations against the then director (finance) who had allegedly managed his posting for a long period in the PDC and remained instrumental in purchases at exorbitant rates. Allegations regarding irregularity in maintenance of 33 KV line was also under enquiry and the team was investigating that aspect too.
