Srinagar, July 7
Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday said action is being taken against those who are circulating a fake letter of separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani on social media.
A letter in Geelani’s name has been in circulation since Monday and it has asked people to observe a complete shutdown on July 8, the death anniversary of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani and July 13- the martyrs day.
“As per the family sources of SAS Geelani the letter is fake and not issued by him. This is published from Pakistan,” the Kashmir police tweet read.

In a surprise development recently, 91-year-old Geelani had resigned as chief of the hardline faction of the Hurriyat Conference accusing a section of the separatist leadership of failing to lead after the abrogation of the special status of J&K.
