ADGP reviews pilgrims’ security

ADGP Mukesh Singh reviewed the security for the Amarnath Yatra in Jammu on Saturday. He emphasised that the security grid on the highway as well as other areas was needed to be ensured at all levels. He visited the transit camp at Lamber in Ramban. Singh also interacted with other officials, including CRPF personnel, and sought their reports regarding the security arrangements.

The ADGP was accompanied by DIG Sunil Gupta, Ramban SSP Mohita Sharma and ASP Rajni Sharma.

In Kashmir, DGP Dilbag Singh reviewed the arrangements at Amarnath Yatra base camps of Manigam and Shadipora.

Earlier in the day, the DGP visited Police Training School, Manigam, Ganderbal, where he inaugurated a ‘Drill Nursery’, a helipad and addressed a trainees’ ‘darbar’. “J&K has its own history of love, brotherhood and togetherness but enemies are targeting its culture by using different evil tactics. The police force has to continue its work to further strengthen and consolidate peace in the Union Territory,” he said.

Amid tight security, the 17th batch of 5,838 Amarnath pilgrims left the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu in the wee hours for the twin base camps of Pahalgam and Baltal in Kashmir. They left in a convoy of 223 vehicles amid heavy CRPF security, officials said.

So far, 1.65 lakh pilgrims have paid obeisance at the cave shrine and as many as 49 have lost their lives.
