Srinagar: ADGP reviews preparations for water sports tourney

Twenty-eight teams from various Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and the state police, including 22 men’s teams and six women’s teams, are likely to participate in 23rd All India Police Water Sports Championship-2023-24. The tournament is being hosted by the J&K Police at Dal Lake, from March 2 to 8.

More than 800 athletes from across the country will prove their mettle in the mega event in canoeing, kayaking and rowing. The teams will be distributed into groups by a draw of lots on March 2. This was disclosed during a meeting chaired by Vijay Kumar, Additional Director General of Police, Armed, J&K. The meeting was convened to review the arrangements for the games.

“During the meeting, the ADGP took the stock of the arrangements and preparations made by the different committees in connection with smooth and successful conduct of the event,” a police spokesman said.

“The ADGP directed the managing staff that even small things relating to the conduct of the event should be flawless and carried out meticulously in all respects. He directed that proper arrangements must be put in place for the opening and closing of the championship,” the police spokesman said.

“During the meeting, the ADGP discussed threadbare the responsibilities that have been entrusted to various committees set up for the smooth conduct of the event,” the spokesman added.

“Elaborate arrangements in terms of security, traffic management, transportation and accommodation for the participants were also discussed during the meeting,” the spokesman said.
