“All the participants were briefed about elaborative security measures taken in this regard. They said that security measures in these (minority) clusters have been reviewed and stand beefed up to ensure a secure environment,” a police spokesman said.

Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, asked the officers to make every effort to ensure a secure and congenial environment.

A senior official said that following the attack, the police have intensified cordon and search operations, increased checkpoints and deployed additional police personnel around the minority clusters.

On Wednesday evening, militants shot dead Amritpal Singh (31) from Amritsar in the Shaheed Gunj area of Srinagar. His colleague Rohit (25) was critically wounded. Rohit succumbed to injuries at Srinagar’s tertiary care hospital on Thursday morning. The targeted killing of non-local workers evoked widespread condemnation across Kashmir. Political parties, across the board, have united in denouncing the attack and urged the authorities to implement stringent measures to stop such attacks. In various areas, including Srinagar and other districts, candlelight vigils were organised to protest the killings.
