Agriculture officer among 8 die of Covid-19 in J-K

With eight more deaths on Tuesday, COVID-19 toll in J&K reached 195. A total 346 new cases were also reported in the last 24 hours.

A 47-year-old agriculture officer from Jammu’s the Talab Tillo area was among the eight who died of the virus.

He was tested positive for coronavirus on Sunday and was put on ventilator support late Monday evening at Government Medical College Jammu. He died early this morning.

After the deceased tested positive, Directorate of Agriculture, Director of Animal Husbandry and other offices situated in the Gole Pulley, Talab Tillo area, have been sealed.

Four colleagues of the deceased have already been tested positive while samples of over 200 employees were collected.

Meanwhile, a sub-inspector posted at Arnia police station also tested positive for COVID-19 following which the police station building was sealed and all police personnel there were quarantined.

Earlier, Janipur police station in the outskirts of Jammu was also sealed after a sub-inspector had tested positive.

According to an official bulletin, 346 new cases tested positive – 56 from Jammu division and 290 from Kashmir division – taking the total number of positive cases in J&K to 11,173.

Also, 128 patients have been cured of virus and discharged from different hospitals in the last 24 hours.

Despite fresh restrictions imposed, Srinagar district on Tuesday recorded all-time single-day high of 127 positive cases.

For the last one week Srinagar district has recorded the highest number of positive cases across the UT.
