The Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) on Wednesday said it has officially moved the Delhi High Court to secure bail for its incarcerated supremo and Member of Parliament from Baramulla, Engineer Rashid, in a terror-funding case.
Chief spokesperson of AIP, Inam Un Nabi, in a statement said, “The bail application for Er Rashid has been filed and is listed for hearing in the Delhi High Court on January 23. This step is part of our unwavering efforts to ensure justice for our leader, whose prolonged detention raises serious concerns about fairness and due process.”
Stating that Rashid has always been a voice for the marginalised and a strong advocate for the democratic aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, Nabi added, “His continued incarceration is deeply concerning and a disservice to the principles of democracy and justice.”.
The AIP leadership urged supporters and well-wishers to remain steadfast and pray for a positive outcome in the upcoming hearing. “The party reaffirms its commitment to pursuing all legal avenues to secure the release of its leader,” said the statement.
During the Lok Sabha polls, Engineer Rashid had emerged as a ‘giant killer’, when he defeated NC vice-chief Omar Abdullah and Peoples’ Conference chief Sajad Lone from the Baramulla Lok Sabha seat, while being lodged in Tihar jail.
During the assembly polls in UT, Rashid was granted bail for campaigning and he conducted a outreach programme and visited several areas of his constituency. In October end, he surrendered to Tihar authorities after his interim bail expired.
