Awami Itihaad Party chief spokesperson Inam Un Nabi said in a statement, “We have asked our counsel to apply before the competent court for necessary permission enabling our President and MP Baramulla, Er Rashid, to participate in the Vice-Presidential election.”

“It is both his democratic right and constitutional duty as a Member of Parliament to be part of the electoral process,” he added.

The party said chairman of Awami Itihaad Party’s Parliamentary Affairs Committee and MLA Langate, Sheikh Khursheed, met Rashid’s counsel Advocate Vikhyat Oberoi in Delhi to deliberate on the legal strategy and ensure timely filing of the application.

Inam further said the party expected the authorities concerned to facilitate the process “in the spirit of democracy and constitutional propriety.”
