The Awami Itihad Party (AIP) has called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to prioritise the long-awaited Sadhna Pass Tunnel project in Karnah, Kupwara.
In a statement, the party emphasised that the tunnel, which is being developed by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) and the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), would provide much-needed all-weather connectivity to the remote regions of Karnah and Tangdhar. These areas are often cut off during harsh winters, severely affecting trade, tourism, and healthcare services.
AIP Chief Spokesperson Inam Un Nabi highlighted the transformative potential of the Sadhna Pass Tunnel and further appealed for the construction of similar tunnels in other parts of Jammu and Kashmir, including Machil, Gurez, Vailoo-Kishtwar, and Shopian-Surankote. According to Inam, these tunnels would ensure uninterrupted connectivity across the region, improving access to vital services and stimulating economic activity.
In addition to the call for infrastructure development, Inam also urged the Prime Minister to release incarcerated Member of Parliament (MP) Er Rasheed, who is currently lodged in Tihar Jail. “Releasing Er Rasheed would honour the people’s will and restore their faith in justice,” Inam stated.
The AIP also reiterated its demand for the release of political prisoners, the restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and the urgent need to address the grievances of the Union Territory’s residents.
