Altaf Bukhari asks LG Murmu to help J&K residents stranded in other parts of India

Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP) President Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari on Wednesday asked Lieutenant Governor GS Murmu to help bring back Jammu and Kashmir residents stranded in other parts of the country because of the nationwide lockdown.

The JKAP president, who spoke to Lieutenant Governor Murmu over the phone from Delhi, said the latter had agreed to facilitate the return of residents of the union territory currently stranded at Madhopur-Pathankote and Lakhanpur entry point on Wednesday.

“There are around 4,500 people of J&K stranded at these entry points despite having completed their quarantines and testing negative for the coronavirus.  I hope from my discussions with the Lieutenant Governor that all these stranded residents, including students, pilgrims and the businessmen, would be allowed to return their homes from today,” Bukhari said.

He said Murmu had promised to help those stranded in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer and Amritsar in Punjab return in the next two days.

“Similarly, the Honb’le Lieutenant Governor has asked inhabitants of Kashmir valley who are stuck up in various parts of Jammu division to get themselves registered by approaching administration through phone for their return to their respective places,” he said.
