Jammu, August 5
No fresh batch of Amarnath Yatra pilgrims was allowed to leave the Bhagwati Nagar base camp here for Kashmir as a precautionary measure in view of the fifth anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370 on Monday, officials said.
An official informed that the pilgrimage has been stopped for a day from Jammu towards Kashmir as a precautionary measure by the security forces as inimical forces might try to disrupt the peace in the region by targeting the pilgrims.
“As today is the fifth anniversary of abrogation of Article 370, there were apprehensions that ultras might try to target the pilgrims out of frustration. To keep the pilgrims safe, the pilgrimage was suspended and will continue from Tuesday morning,” a police official informed.
Security across J&K and especially on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has been strengthened. With additional troops deployed the security net has been widened.
