Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU), a representative body of Islamic groups and religious institutions of Jammu and Kashmir, headed by Mirwaz Umar Farooq, has opposed the proposed amendments to the Waqf Act, calling them against the interest of the Muslim community.

In a joint letter on behalf of all constituents of the MMU addressed to Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) chairman Jagdambika Pal, the Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema has urged the committee to reject the proposed amendments and rather engage in meaningful dialogue with the Muslim community to address their concerns.

“If these amendments are not rejected, J&K Muslims will protest it as they see it as an assault on their religious institutions,” the MMU said.
