Anantnag markets inspected for Ramzan, defaulters fined Rs 10K
In view of the holy month of Ramadan, an extensive market inspection was carried out today across Khannabal and other key market places in Anantnag town of south Kashmir.
A spokesperson said the inspection drive was conducted with active participation from officials of the Food Safety Department, Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) and the Municipal Council Anantnag.
During the inspection, the enforcement squad identified several violations, including the sale of expired food items. The violators were penalised on the spot and the expired goods were immediately destroyed to prevent their sale. A total fine of Rs 10,000 was imposed on offenders as per the relevant regulations.
Authorities have urged traders and shopkeepers to strictly adhere to food safety norms and maintain hygiene standards, ensuring the availability of safe and quality products for consumers, particularly during Ramadan, the spokesperson said.
The administration has also assured that such market inspections would continue to safeguard public health and uphold consumer rights.
