New Delhi, July 25

Anantnag-Rajouri MP and NC leader Mian Altaf Ahmad on Thursday urged the Centre to provide basic facilities to the Kashmir region while pointing out that no consultations were held with people and trading communities before preparing the Budget for the UT.

Ahmad lamented that there was no elected government in J&K for the past six years, while the Assembly elections had not been held there for the past 10 years. Unemployment and corruption were at their peak, he said.

“We are living at the mercy of a few bureaucrats. The youth, farmers and tribals in Kashmir are suffering. Basic facilities such as roads, health infrastructure and housing have taken a hit in the past few years,” Ahmad said.

“I suggest that a House committee should be formed to visit Kashmir and see the reality there,” Ahmad said.
