In light of recent cross-border firing incidents in the Poonch and Akhnoor sectors of Jammu division, Lt Governor Manoj Sinha assured on Monday that the Army is fully capable of handling any situation along the borders of the Union Territory (UT).

"The Army can deal with any situation, and I believe that it is giving a befitting response (to the firing) on the borders," Sinha said.

He further emphasised the coordination between the J&K Police and other security forces, who have been instructed to eliminate terrorists in the region. “There will be no pause in the operations against terrorism in J&K, and they will continue. I think that the priority should be peace (in the UT),” the Lt Governor added.

Sinha's comments came in response to recent incidents, including a sniper attack along the LoC and an IED explosion in Akhnoor sector on February 11, which claimed the lives of two Army personnel, including a captain and a Naik.

The cross-border firing in Poonch continued on Sunday, resulting in injuries to a soldier from sniper fire. In the past week, two other soldiers were also injured in similar incidents along the LoC. While the Army confirmed that the ceasefire agreement between the two countries remains intact, no official statement has been issued regarding the sniper fire.

Reports suggested possible casualties on the Pakistani side due to the recent exchange of fire, but this remains unconfirmed by official sources.
