The deceased soldier has been identified as Havildar Sambur Gurung, a native of Nepal.

The defence spokesperson said Havildar Sambur Gurung was a brave, motivated and a sincere soldier. “The nation will always remain indebted to him for his supreme sacrifice and devotion to duty,” he said.

The body of the army jawan has been shifted to Nowshera for medico-legal formalities.

This is the sixth killing of soldiers along the LoC in Poonch and Rajouri sector in Pakistan shelling. Last month, India lost five soldiers along the LoC in Poonch and Rajouri sectors.

On July 8, a 60-year-old woman was killed while another was critically injured after Pakistan targeted forward areas with mortars along the LoC in Mendhar sector of Poonch district.
