An Army Major posted along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district died after falling ill, officials said on Saturday.
The Srinagar-based Army’s Chinar Corps announced that Major Apraant Raunaq Singh, who was awarded the Sena Medal in 2022, “died in the line of duty” in the Nowgam sector, located in the border district of Kupwara in North Kashmir.
Sources said Singh, a native of Uttar Pradesh, fell ill on Friday at the LoC and was immediately airlifted to the Army’s 92 Base Hospital in Srinagar for treatment. However, he succumbed during treatment.
Chinar Corps paid tribute to Major Apraant, stating he “made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty in Baramulla district.”
“Chinar Warriors salute the valour and sacrifice of the braveheart. We stand in solidarity with the bereaved family and remain committed to their well-being,” the Army said in a post on X.
Army officials added that Major Apraant had engaged in a gunbattle with two terrorists in 2021, including a top militant, during his posting in Kulgam district of South Kashmir.
