Army recovers huge cache of arms, ammo

The Army on Wednesday said based on human intelligence, a joint search operation in the forests of North Kashmir’s frontier district Kupwara led to the recovery of a significant cache of arms, ammunition and other warlike material.

“In a joint search operation near Magam and Kupwara, the Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police have achieved a breakthrough against terrorist activities, resulting in a significant recovery of ammunition and warlike stores,” an Army spokesman said.

He said the operation was initiated based on “human intelligence” received from a reliable source.

“A meticulous search and destroy operation was launched based on the intelligence, resulting in the recovery of nine UBGL shells, four IED receivers, 30 commercial grade detonators in original factory packaging, 138 rounds of AK47, a loaded magazine of a sniper rifle, blank rounds of AK 47 and four magazines of a 9mm pistol,” he said.
