Defending Article 370, the National Conference today accused the Central government and the BJP of spreading misinformation and propaganda about it.

The party said Article 370 has immensely benefited the people of Jammu and Kashmir giving them special status and providing land rights and benefit of education. The National Conference said the Article was taken away from the people undemocratically, unconstitutionally and unilaterally.

“It is through Article 370 that the people here gained ownership rights to land and access to benefits like free education. Its unilateral revocation was undemocratic and unconstitutional,” NC general secretary Ali Mohd Sagar said.

Sagar said the rhetoric of peace and development are mere words that are aimed at misleading the populace. “The National Conference’s dedication to the welfare and development of Jammu and Kashmir and its people is unparalleled and cannot be replicated,” he added.

The NC leader said the National Conference played a vital role in the 1996 elections when few were willing to participate. He said the party’s bold entry into the political arena to protect the interests of the people amid challenging circumstances is known to all.
