In a significant development, the banned Jamaat-e-Islami has launched its political outfit — the Jammu and Kashmir Justice and Development Front (JKJDF).

The announcement was made by Jamaat leaders in Kulgam, Kashmir, where they appealed to their workers to support the new party.

Jamaat leaders stated that the people of Jammu and Kashmir were dissatisfied with various issues, and the party would fight for their rights through democratic means.

The party’s general secretary, Sayar Reshi, said there were concerns among Jamaat leaders about working for the welfare of the people of J&K. “We have been working on establishing a political front, which was informally launched on Sunday. It will be formally launched in the coming days, and we will strive for the development of the people,” he said.

Danishwar Hameed, another member of the new party, emphasised that JKJDF would work at the grassroots level to address public concerns.

Since Jamaat is banned, it could not participate in last year’s elections. However, its members contested the polls as independents from various constituencies in Kashmir.
