Srinagar, February 25
Bharat Tibet Sahyog Manch’s Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh units today said the Chinese government had launched a crackdown on Tibetan Buddhist monks protesting the construction of a mega dam on the Yangtze river, which is displacing the Tibetan community.
In a statement, the Bharat Tibet Sahyog Manch said the dam project threatened to submerge six ancient monasteries and numerous villages, erasing centuries of cultural heritage. The monks, advocating for the preservation of their ancestral culture, faced harsh reprisals from Chinese authorities, with over 100 detained and many injured, the Manch said.
