Jammu, December 27

Amid raging controversy over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), the BJP on Friday said the National Population Register (NPR) was the baby of the Congress as this project was first initiated when the UPA was in power at the Centre.

‘J&K will be granted statehood soon’

  • According to a handout issued by the BJP, Ram Madhav assured that the UT of J&K will be granted statehood in near future. He stressed that this year was very eventful for the people of J&K and Ladakh. He said people from across the region had welcomed the abrogation of Article 370 and 35 (A).

“The NPR process was first initiated by the then Congress-led UPA government and the first resident card was handed over to the then President by the then Union Finance Minister, P Chidambaram,” recalled BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav while interacting with mediapersons.

He said NPR was merely an administrative exercise to locate residents of the country and track their movement. “The comparison of NPR with demonetisation is meaningless”, he said while reacting to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s statement.

Expressing his anguish over violence in the name of holding protest against CAA, he termed such incidents as “political, communal conspiracy” being hatched by the Congress to divide people on religious lines.

“The violence is part of deep-rooted political conspiracy. We condemn the Opposition and communal forces for fueling violence”, he said and observed that prevailing situation in the country was a result of “vicious and misinformation campaign” launched by the Opposition parties and certain communal forces just to accomplish their nefarious designs.

Madhav charged the Congress with promoting violence in the country by instigating people through misleading campaign.

Criticising the Opposition parties, particularly the Congress, for targeting the police, he said the grand-old party should fight the BJP politically, instead of targeting the wings of the government, especially the police.
