Srinagar, August 9
The social media is splashed with letters and videos of the BJP workers announcing their resignations or disassociation with the saffron party.
While a fresh militant attack sparked four resignations of the BJP office-bearers from the central Kashmir’s Budgam district today, several other resignations, mostly of lower-rung workers from south Kashmir, were announced during the past one week that saw three terror attacks on workers of the BJP.
The attacks of the past week followed the killings of former BJP district president Bandipora, Wasim Bari, and his father Bashir Ahmad and brother Umar Bari last month in North Kashmir.
In the resignations announced on social media, the former BJP workers have also sought forgiveness from the people. “…if by some chance some person may have got hurt, kindly forgive,” wrote Sameer Shah while resigning as district office secretary, BJP, Budgam. “From today I have no concern with the BJP party,” worte Wali M Bhat while announcing his resignation as the constituency president of Chaarar-e-Sharief.
Though the BJP dismissed the resignations as those of lower-rung party members, a meeting was held here after which J&K general secretary (organisation) Ashok Koul raised the matter with party’s national president JP Nadda.
“We brought the matter to the notice of Nadda as we have already sought enhanced security cover for our workers. Unfortunately, some of our workers…say from places like Kulgam (in south Kashmir) are given accommodation in Srinagar. We have sought secured accommodation for our workers in their respective districts. And around 1,500 BJP workers are without security in south Kashmir…we are in the process of preparing a list of our workers without security,” BJP media-in charge Manzoor Bhat told The Tribune.
Senior BJP leader and former MLC Sofi Yousuf said the militant attacks would not bog down the party workers. “Militants have created fear psychosis among the BJP workers across the Valley, but lotus will bloom like a tsunami and wash out these anti-national forces,” he said.
