Body of missing soldier found from a barrage in Uri

The body of a 25-year-old soldier, who was missing since June 5, was found from a National Hydel Power Corporation (NHPC) barrage in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, officials said on Wednesday.

Afsar Singh of 5 Jat Regiment, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, was posted at the Chahla Boniyar in Uri. His unit had filed a missing persons report with the local police station.

“His body was found from an NHPC barrage this morning,” a police officer said. The body was taken for a medico-legal checkup.

The police officer said investigations have been set into motion.
