Border school bunkers to serve as libraries
Jammu, February 13
In a step towards empowering the rural communities living along International Border (IB) with Pakistan, the administration of Samba district has taken an initiative and started construction of model bunkers with libraries for students.
These special community bunkers, which are being built on premises of government schools, are being equipped with libraries so that students can frequently visit them. There is also a proposal for conducting some classes in these bunkers.
Samba Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Sharma visited one of these model community bunkers being built at government primary school at Suchetpur village. Presently, two model bunkers are being built in the district.
During his visit, DC reviewed schemes under Jal Shakti Department and issued instructions for early completion of the work. The DC also issued instructions that in case there was delay in completion of work, action will be taken against officials concerned.
The DC also interacted with the students of the school and inquired about their studies. He also encouraged the locals for cleanliness of bunkers so they can be used at the time of need.
Bunkers in Jammu division along IB and Line of Control (LoC) work as a saviour of the residents. Few years ago, ceasefire violations by Pakistan were frequent and people use to take shelter in these bunkers to save them from firing and bombs from other side.
