Lieutenant Governor Girish Chander Murmu on Tuesday appointed former Chief Secretary and retired IAS officer Braj Raj Sharma as Chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC).
Sharma, son of the soil, would hold the position of the Chairman in JKPSC till he attains the age of 62 years, read the order issued by the General Administration Department (GAD), Jammu and Kashmir.
A 1984-batch IAS officer of the Jammu and Kashmir cadre, Sharma was appointed the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) Chairman in October last year. On April 20, this year, he was re-employed as the SSC Chairman for two more years up to April 30, 2022, post his retirement on April 30.
In March 2019, he was appointed as Secretary, Department of Border Management, Ministry of Home Affairs.
Sharma belongs to Kathua district of Jammu division and has served on several important positions, including Chief Secretary and Home Secretary in the J&K Government.
Before proceeding on the Central deputation, Sharma was appointed Advisor to the then Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on April 29, 2017.
