Briefs: Suspected drug peddler’s house attached in Srinagar
Property had been acquired from proceeds of illegal narcotics trade
Srinagar: The Police on Sunday attached a residential house worth Rs one crore belonging to an alleged drug peddler in Natipora area of the city, an official said here. The attached property is registered in the name of Javid Ahmad Ganie. “Police have attached a double-storey residential house worth approximately Rs 1 crore under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act,” a police spokesman said. “The accused is a habitual drug peddler and is involved in FIR No. 23/2025 under sections 8, 21, 29 NDPS Act of Police Station Chanapora. During investigation, it was conclusively established that the property had been acquired from proceeds of illegal narcotics trade,” he said. The spokesman said based on the investigations, the competent authority ordered attachment of the property under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act. “The attachment was executed in the presence of the executive magistrate first class, Chanapora, ensuring due legal compliance,” he added. As per the order, the owner is restrained from selling, transferring, altering, or creating any third-party interest in the property, the spokesman said.
Forest fire triggers landmine blasts along LoC
Mendhar/Jammu: At least half-a-dozen landmines exploded due to a forest fire along the Line of Control in Poonch district on Sunday, officials said. The fire broke out in the Balakote forest along the zero line around 10 am, detonating about six landmines in the anti-infiltration obstacle system, the officials said. There was no report of any damage in the explosions, they said. The forward areas along the LoC are dotted with landmines as part of an anti-infiltration obstacle system to prevent terrorists from intruding into this side from across the border. The fire was still raging and efforts were on to douse the flames, the officials said.
Terrorist hideout busted in Doda, SLR seized
Jammu: A terrorist hideout was busted in a dense forest in Doda district, leading to the recovery of a rifle and ammunition on Sunday, officials said. The operation was jointly conducted by the Special Operations Group (SOG) of local police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in the forest area of Bhallara in Thathri, officials added.
They further informed that a self-loading rifle, its two magazines and 20 rounds were recovered from a hideout deep inside the forest during the operation, which was underway when the last reports were received.
