Leh, February 11
The Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA), which had earlier spearheaded the movement in support of the Union Territory demand in Ladakh, has sought immediate announcement of safeguards to protect the culture and identity of the people and ecology of the Union Territory of Ladakh.
The LBA convened a joint meeting of all religious communities and political leaders of Ladakh in Leh on Monday to discuss the need for the constitutional safeguards for Ladakh, which have become a “growing concern” for the people in the newly formed UT. The meeting, which was called to bring all stakeholders of Ladakh on a common platform, was held at the LBA office in Leh town. It was presided over by LBA president PT Kunzang.
In a press statement, the LBA said after much deliberation on the constitutional safeguards, the participants had unanimously decided to organise a peaceful rally in Leh town on February 17 to convey their gratitude to the Centre for fulfilling their long-pending demand and also to raise with the Centre the growing concern of the people about the need for the constitutional safeguards.
