The Union Budget has provided a special Central package of Rs 17,000 crore for Jammu and Kashmir, as a result of which the fiscal deficit to GDP ratio of the state is expected to come down to 3 per cent in 2024-25. This special package will be part of the overall Central assistance of Rs 67,133 crore during 2024-25.

32 pc hike in Budget allocation for Ladakh

New Delhi: The Centre has allocated Rs 5,958 crore for the Union Territory of Ladakh in the Union Budget 2024-25, a massive 32 per cent rise from last year’s allotment of Rs 4,500 crore. The Ladakh UT has received Rs 2,035.49 crore for establishment expenditure of the Centre to meet its secretariat-related expenses and establishment of other departments and offices.

According to an official spokesperson, the Union government will provide for the salary, pension and other costs of J&K Police, for which Rs 12,000 crore has been allotted, plus a special grant of Rs 5,000 crore.

In addition, Rs 279 crore has been allocated as grants towards contribution to the Union Territory Disaster Response Fund, another Rs 130 crore as grants towards the equity contribution for the 624-MW Kiru Hydro Electric Project and Rs 476.44 crore towards equity for the 800-MW Ratle Hydro Electric Project.

Besides, a grant of Rs 500 crore for the Jhelum and Tawi Flood Recovery Project, plus Rs 171.23 crore to Jammu and as grants for equity contribution for the 540-MW KWR HEP.
