After keeping the students busy by conducting home classes amid the lockdown, the Directorate of School Education, Jammu, has launched ‘Stay Home Stay Clean’ campaign to celebrate Earth Day.

The programme is open to all schools in the Jammu division. It educates children about their responsibilities towards the environment and also offers them an opportunity to get involved in environmental projects.

The students have been advised to start various activities at home and keep a record of the same in a scrapbook or diary.

After the schools reopen, a competition at the school level will be held and the best performers will receive the Green Champs of School award.

“The activities which the students have to undertake at home include practice and learn segregation of waste at home, learning composting of wastes, engage in art and craft activities out of waste material available at home, learn about indoor air pollution and its solutions, realising how one can contribute to air pollution and how one can make a lifestyle change and practice reuse, reduce and recycle at home,” said an official.

“In the prevailing situation, the schoolchildren are feeling bored at home. Though home classes are being run so that there is no academic loss, the launch of the activities will definitely help the students to learn something new,” said the official.
